Top 12 Wedding Day Tips
A wedding day is one of the most important, memorable, and breath-taking day of your lives. It is a celebration of love and marks the beginning of the rest of your lives. As a couple, you spend a considerable amount of time planning your dream wedding day and I hope these wedding day tips will help you to create the most magical day you even dreamed of!
Your wedding day should be one of the most beautiful and memorable days of your life. This day is celebration of your love and the beginning of a new chapter. As an experienced wedding photographer in the UK, I have had the honour to be a part and photographed many love stories. I have learned so much in my photography experience and I am happy now to share some advice to make your wedding day more seamlessly and enjoyable and stress free. I am sharing these Top 12 Wedding Day Tips from my own experience because I am here to help make your special day enjoyable and not forgettable.
The final weeks prior the wedding day can be very stressful and often lead to numerous sleepless nights. A good sleep is one of the most important factors the night before the special day. As your excitement will be high try to schedule an early night with no interruptions, rest and relax!
Although many brides say they feel too anxious or excited to eat in the morning but believe me, it is really important to have a healthy breakfast to get you through the day. Try eating a healthy breakfast full of protein for an energy and a breakfast that will set you up for the perfect day. For example, a layered breakfast bowl with fresh fruit, natural yogurt and granola and a calming herbal tea will set you up nicely for the day.
It is so important to stay hydrated throughout the day too! Have bottles of waters in all key places and always keep a bottle near you. Create water stations for guests throughout the whole wedding day including at your wedding ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, wedding reception and even your after-party, if this is your thing!
This is so important wedding day tip. Ensure your wedding shoes fit beautifully and are comfortable. Trust me you do not want to feel uncomfortable walking down the aisle. Wearing your brand-new wedding shoes at home before your wedding day is a great way to ensure you feel maximum comfort. Another fantastic tip is to consider wearing your wedding shoes during your engagement session, especially on a sunny summer’s day. This will not only allow you to showcase your beautiful footwear but also will help you to feel even more comfortable before wearing them on your wedding day. This wedding tip is not only fro brides; it applies to grooms as well.
This is another very simple and yet important wedding day tip – allow enough time to get dressed! This can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 35 minutes depending on the style and complexity of your dress design. Ask your mum, bridesmaids, or whoever will help you get into your dress on your wedding morning to attend your final dress fitting and ask a shop salesperson to show the best way how to get into your wedding dress. Most bridal boutiques are happy to chat through the best way – remember they are here to help!
This wedding day tip is to create a space just for all your details like wedding dress, veil, shoes, invitation suite, perfume, jewellery, and any other meaningful items. Ensure your photographer and videographer know where this space is so they can create some beautiful flat lays of all your wedding day items. You will receive the most beautifully styled photos to cherish forever.
This tip is one of my favourites – the wedding day timeline and schedule. A wedding day timeline is detailed document including the most important information relating to your wedding day (emergency contact numbers, supplier requirements, formal group photo list and the all-important timings). Ensure these have been shared with your venue, all suppliers, and key members of your wedding party. It is also a good idea to print a few copies off or ask your wedding party to save on their phones so everyone can have a look if needed.
Sometimes it’s hard to hand things especially when you like everything is under the control. Your wedding day is when it is the time to delegate. Try delegate the most important wedding day tasks to trusted members of your wedding party. Bridesmaids are amazing at gathering everyone for wedding photographs, Mums are wonderful at chatting to all family members, use your groomsmen to help with any transportation elements and ensuring guests are where they need to be during the day. Ask these persons in advance if they would love to help on your wedding day. Remember there is nothing wrong to ask someone to help. You will be more relaxed knowing everything is taken care of.
Allocate couple of key members of your wedding party to help with formal group photographs, ideally someone who knows both families well. Try get as organised as possible with guest management, get the next group of family ready and work in advance. Formal group photos can take a significant amount of time and quite often goes over schedule. The quicker this is completed, the quicker you can join to your guests and enjoy drink reception.
I always try to encourage my couples to write a little love letter to each other and open these on the morning of your wedding day. Include some of your favourite memories together as a couple, what you are most looking forward to on the wedding day, honeymoon, and the rest of your lives together.
Make a list of any family and special friends you would like to make a special thank you. Especially thank any family members who have contributed to your wedding or honeymoon budget. A small token of appreciate can go a long way and a nice surprise for any special guests.
It might sound not for you, but it is always great to allow between 10 and 15 minutes alone time, away from your guests, the photographer and videographer. This could be the moment between your welcome drinks and wedding breakfast. Trust me, you will appreciate this time just to reflect on your wedding day, raise a toast as newlyweds and just have a few minutes alone together.
My very last tip from my 12 Wedding Day Tips is to make sure you enjoy your wedding day! Eat, drink, dance like nobody is watching and have fun. You have put so many efforts and spent months leading up to this moment, spent a considerable amount of money and worked very hard, so now it is time to enjoy every moment of it and have the best day you dreamed of!
